July 16, 2008 Meetup

Sorry, posting over the last couple weeks has been a little lax. The meetings are growing though. The last couple weeks have been fun. Lately we’ve been moving downstairs because so many people show up.

We got to see a physical invention, which is a rare site at these meet-ups.  A prescription bottle cap that goes through heaven and hell to remind you to take your medication, and it’s capable to poking external systems thanks to a ZigBee chip.

We also got to hang out with Pat Allan. A Rails developer form Australia doing a world tour. He’s already skipped through many cities. He’s over in Cambodia now, and he’ll be there for three months. Good luck Pat!

Today was a good mix of familiar and new faces. Topics were varied but included:

  • Online communities - success and failures
  • A bill sharing system
  • A Hong Kong based taxi cab advertising network developed by one of the OpenCoffee visitors moving to Boston.
  • …many more

You should come by!
