Sorry, posting over the last couple weeks has been a little lax. The meetings are growing though. The last couple weeks have been fun. Lately we’ve been moving downstairs because so many people show up.

We got to see a physical invention, which is a rare site at these meet-ups. A prescription bottle cap that goes through heaven and hell to remind you to take your medication, and it’s capable to poking external systems thanks to a ZigBee chip.

We also got to hang out with Pat Allan. A Rails developer form Australia doing a world tour. He’s already skipped through many cities. He’s over in Cambodia now, and he’ll be there for three months. Good luck Pat!

Today was a good mix of familiar and new faces. Topics were varied but included:

Online communities - success and failures

A bill sharing system

A Hong Kong based taxi cab advertising network developed by one of the OpenCoffee visitors moving to Boston.

…many more

You should come by!

20 people showed up, which is pretty cool.

Fish Fishman, AKA Tuna Oddfellow within Second Life, stopped by with his wife. Fish is a professional magician, and also more or less an Internet celebrity now. His wife was formerly with the EFF and worked on Tor. They are starting a machinma production company, in this case using game engines to create videos.

We heard what it was like working for Jim Cramer, the Mad Money guy.

We got an introduction to a project for proper display of text on a variety of screen sizes. This was pretty cool because if the screen is super small, it would actually change the semantics.

We talked about virtual goods, and if the money spend on them is just a short lived fad or a viable long-term replacement for all the things we know, like greeting and holiday cards.

Albert the V.C. stopped by as well.

Spread the word about the meetings. All of us hope to meet more local entrepreneurs.
